Our mission was to make a strong announcement that Black Rayquaza, one of the most popular legendary Pokémon, was available to catch in Pokémon GO. In Pokémon GO, legendary pokémons appear at “Gym”, which are located at iconic landmarks and spots to inspire us to explore the real world. So we decided to pop up attractive and celestial images of our legendary Pokémon at one of the most famous landmarks in Tokyo to drive our audience to catch him. Rayquaza is like the oriental dragon, the legendary creature in oriental mythology and folklore. So we focused on “墨絵(sumie)” , the traditional oriental art with black indian inks since ancient times. We created the celestial artworks of Black Rayquaza and set them up at SHIBUYA 109 TOWER and SHIBUYA Station, said to be the Times Square of Japan.
