This road movie features Yurie Akutsu, a Japanese millennial influencer with numerous millennial followers, traveling in Peru. It shows her viewing scenery she never saw before, experiencing the warm hospitality of Peruvian people, and looking back on her life during the journey.
Japanese still tend to glorify hard work and find it difficult to take long vacations. Two weeks, for example, is longer than most Japanese are able to take off. (In fact, Japanese on average only take half their available vacation time. From 2019, companies will be fined if they do not force their staff to take off at least 5 paid days of vacation a year.) As a result, most Japanese consider Peru a South American country on the other side of the earth that is simply out of reach. When presented with conventional promotions of Peru’s attractions, they feel they would love to visit someday, but never make real plans.
Peru, the Great Nation of the Unexpected I want to travel as far as I can. In a faraway land, I want to see views I have never seen before. Living everyday life makes me want to experience something different. When I experience new cultures and history, I feel like I can be a new me. Emptying my mind. Not thinking about difficult things. I just feel myself being on Earth. Or looking beyond the sky and realizing how small I am. It might take going on a little adventure to leave your everyday life behind. I feel like I’m starting to realize what truly moves me. Like shopping in local markets. Or being surrounded by scenery that gives me the chills. I want to cherish the moments that let me connect with my true self. Spending time with warm people makes me realize what truly matters. So I take a step forward. To follow my heart and make time to face myself. Because such fulfilling times pass by us so quickly. I wonder how my time in Peru will impact my life from this point on. I hope one day, it will be the one week that deeply changed my life. A week in Peru stays with you forever.
