Nuggets hardly come on its own, and you can't eat just one. It's better, when there's more to share. Through the Spicy McNuggets gang, we encourage friends to share the food, and share the fun. In this film we see a solo nugget performing synchronised swimming in a pool of curry sauce to Johann Strauss' Blue Danube. It's a pitiful scene. As the music swells to a crescendo, the nugget is joined by the rest of his friends, who hoist him up above water and make formations together, proving that fun is truly better, together.
Whether it's a McDonna, McPaiseh, or McBeng, there's a Singaporean in every nugget. Each character of this 9-piece family was inspired by a Singaporean character everyone can relate to: the suave Ah Beng, the grumpy uncle, the ever-enthusiastic gym rat, the clumsy "blur sotong" who keeps getting left behind, even the middle-aged nosy Aunty.
3D animation was used for the Spicy McNuggets characters and elements like the curry sauce pool, with cutout animation employed for the environment (audience stands, bunting, windows), giving the McNuggets universe an overall quirky look. We spent weeks perfecting the character designs. They had to be locally relatable, with details like cat-eye glasses and towels for the Singaporean nuances we needed. And as little food monsters, the Spicy McNugget characters needed to balance cuteness with deliciousness. We pored over each crumb, colour and texture, ensuring that any add-ons to the McNuggets' bodies such as the limbs, facial features and accessories resembled edible elements. Perhaps what was most challenging of all was perfecting the texture and fluidity of the curry sauce in the swimming pool. We had to find the perfect viscosity, sheen and texture to match the actual product, while ensuring enough fluidity for the nuggets to swim in.
