The Singapore Time Walk app allows users to explore Singapore landmarks in new ways. Using the app, you can find a landmark, pull up information on it, and interact with your selected landmark. The user will be guided to one of the two designated spots in Singapore. Once the destination is reached, the user is able to activate the camera to overlay and animate historic images over the modern view of each landmark. With the use of historical data and photos, the past has been 'reconstructed' into 3D animations, illustrating change over time.
The app is well received by the public. In the future the app will be enriched with different routes (e.g. the Jubilee Walk) which allows the user to explore the a wider variety of landmarks and see how they have evolved through the years.
In celebration of Singapore’s 50th anniversary. Google released the Singapore Time Walk app in collaboration with MCCY. The app has been created to capture the magnificence of the ever changing Singapore architecture over the last decades. With the rich content of Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, the National Heritage Board, the Urban Redevelopment Authority and from private collections, Google captured the history in rich illustrations, 3D animations and imagery from the past and the present of several landmarks. The app is built on the Google Maps API and is a 50th birthday gift to Singapore from Google
