We designed the communication Pepper to communicate directly with users. Through personality and hardware design, we changed the dynamics between people and robots, which contributes to client's brands and businesses.
To become a true partner, Pepper required not only hardware and software development, but advanced communication skills and a human-like personality. To achieve this, we developed technologies like emotion recognition and Cloud AI. We had to make a character that would produce unexpected user experiences, not spit out canned responses. After the launch, it communicated directly with users in shops all around Japan and users rated it highly.
Because there was no for communication robots, the target audience was new. They had to develop and produce a character and conversational ability that everyone could enjoy.
At Softbank shops, customer visits increased by 150%. He is now a regular on 2 TV programs and one radio station, even appears in other companies' television commercials. Pepper also received offers to work as a receptionist, sales agent, educator, medica assistant, and the like from over 1,000 companies. With the robot Pepper, we have advanced society so that people and robots can live together. Technology only makes sense when it makes people happy. Pepper has taught us that.
