The Brief

Get potential students interested in an Edith Cowan University (ECU) course. Before you can go to university in Australia you need to pick a course. But most high school students don’t know what they want to do.

Describe how the promotion developed from concept to implementation

We built an interactive installation that used EEG brainwave reading technology. Hundreds of students watched and read course information while wearing an EEG headset. Through an iPad app we recorded their interest levels and were able to let them know which course they were most interested in.

Describe the success of the promotion with both client and consumer including some quantifiable results

100% of potential students found the ECU course they were really interested in. 67% discovered they were actually interested in a course they did not expect. Students spent on average 15 minutes with the Mind Reading Career Finder, completely focused on ECU course information. Uni applications are now open and results will be finalised after November 29 2014.

Explain why the method of promotion was most relevant to the product or service

Student’s were actually recommending an ECU course to themselves. The use of this smart, simple and useful technology is also proof of what the University can offer to potential students with its courses and facilities.
