People who tried the Vacationizer over the course of three days at the travel fair: 1,235 Travel fair attendance: Over 50,000 visitors (a 25% increase from the last travel fair hosted by AirAsia-Expedia) - thanks largely to Facebook shares of the Vacationizer in action. Holiday package sales: Increased by 15% when compared against numbers from the last travel fair hosted by AirAsia-Expedia
Introducing the Expedia Vacationizer. A device that uses Electroencephalograph (EEG) Brainwave technology from UK-based MyndPlay – the world’s first mind-controlled media platform. Visitors to the travel fair (where the Vacationizer was unveiled) were invited to put on a helmet at the Expedia booth, while holiday destinations were flashed on a screen. The Vacationizer honed in on the visuals that triggered the strongest mental responses from users, thus revealing their dream destinations. Every Vacationizer user happily uploaded their picture using the device on their facebook pages, adding to awareness.
The insight: Go to any travel fair and you’re met with a barrage of unbelievable offers. With so many to choose from, a limited holiday budget, plus having to deal with maddening crowds, it can be difficult to make the right pick. The strategy: Help Expedia's potential customers take their minds off the madness of making a potentially hasty holiday selection. The idea: Create the first-ever device that does the selecting for them - by probing their mind to uncover the destination they've long wanted to visit.
