Idea: A diary of 365 public holidays. Each date highlights a holiday somewhere in the world. Challenges: Searching online, identifying and cross-checking the validity of the holidays was the first challenge. The second challenge was crafting the fonts and designs which were relevant to each celebration. The graphics had to be legible when shrunk. While each font had to be unique, they also had to be consistent. For the planner pages, we wanted a design that was unconventional yet practical.
Background: To celebrate the diversity of cultures in which a global network such as Dentsu operates in.
Solutions: A colour palette and illustration style guide was created to maintain consistency among all the designers working on the project. A simplified illustration style was adopted when designing the letters. Each letter had to retain details to make them more interesting to look at when blown up. When the whole type family is laid out in sequence, the holidays can be observed to be in chronological order. A straightforward layout was adopted for the weekly planner pages, but made quirky with the spiralling holiday names.
Everyone loved the diary!
