Brief Explanation

A lot of property developments claim to be environmentally sustainable, but most people don’t believe them. How could we demonstrate our commitment to being a sustainable community in a relevant and memorable way?

The Brief

Our client, a local property developer briefed us to design their signage. Rather than just create something ordinary, we put a fresh spin on the humble street sign.

How the final design was conceived

We created Signs of Nature, a fresh take on the humble street sign. Rather than just create street signs, we created community meeting points on every corner. The street name was made from a die cut metal panel that collected rain water and then stored it in it’s base. Every day, the sign then gently fed and watered the herb garden attached to the street pole below, giving each street a constant supply of freshly grown herbs. We changed the herbs on a seasonal basis, and the signs of nature became a key meeting point for neighbours every day.

Indication of how successful the outcome was in the market

After an initial trial run of 25 signs, the developer will now be rolling out the signs across the entire community. Resident feedback has been glowing, with the signs listed as a Main Driver in purchase decisions.
