Wi-Fiction is a totally new digital medium of storytelling. A mysterious box containing a set of Wi-Fi routers was placed in Federation Square – Melbourne’s cultural epicentre and Australia’s biggest free Wi-Fi hot spot. When anyone took advantage of the free Wi-Fi, they saw that the list of network names had conspired to create short and humorous stories. Special characters prefixed each line, keeping them at the top of the pop-up window and locked in order. During the Festival, over 65,000 visitors were exposed to over 20 different Wi-Fiction stories, bringing to life the Festival theme, ‘Stories Unbound.’
