Draw artists, art connoisseurs and toy collectors to the exhibit.
Unknown to many, Filipino artists are among the world’s best toy sculptors and modifiers. Binil is an art exhibit that showcases Filipino artists’ talents in toy customization.
Staying true to vinyl toy customization, raw hand-painted posters of freakish customized toys were made and replicated to announce the event. These were put around the Malugay area – a favorite haunt of artists.
In its weeklong run, hundreds of guests graced the exhibit – a success by counterculture measure. Among these were celebrities and art enthusiasts. All of the customized toys on exhibit were sold as legitimate art pieces. Even the hand-painted posters were bought as well. Following this success, a second exhibit is currently in the works.
