This film is a metaphor for Shangri-la's hospitality using a compelling, yet simple story. Our exhausted traveller is alone in an overwhelming and unwelcoming landscape - this represents, in a highly dramatic manner, the experience of modern travel. Nightfall brings more obstacles and the climax of the story - our traveller giving into his exhaustion, and the appearance of the wolves. However, the wolves surprise the audience by helping the man rather than adding to the danger - they lie over him in order to give him warmth. This represents the ultimate act of hospitality - embracing a stranger as one's own.
