In Japan, May 4th is a national holiday, called the ‘Midori-no-Hi,’ or Green Day and all metropolitan zoos are available for free every year on this day. However, for this year due to the COVID-19 stay-at-home period, the zoos were on self-restraint and were not able to open the zoo with free admission.

1st Page: Xiang Xiang comes to your home. Normally, today, May 4th ‘Midori no Hi’ or Green Day, would have been the annual day for all metropolitan zoos to be opened for free. However, for this year, now is the time to stay at home. This is why we have decided to have the animal delivered to you. Starting today, Tokyo Shimbun will deliver life-sized photographs of the giant panda, Xiang Xiang in split parts over a three-days period. Enjoy your home time connecting them together! Please outline how the work was adapted, modified or was innovative

Maximizing the newspaper’s characteristic to the fullest extent - ‘delivery to home on a daily basis’, a full-scale photo of the panda, Xiang Xiang from the Ueno Zoo was split into six parts/times to be published consecutively. The life-sized, Xiang Xian was reproduced in homes by connecting the pieces like a puzzle. A new newspaper experience was provided to families making the stay-at-home period brighter.
