In the Philippines, a shortage of PPE has followed the COVID-19 pandemic, owing to the large amounts of protective gear required to safely treat patients of the highly contagious virus in hospitals. Comic Odyssey, one of the country’s top comic book stores, wanted to help out these real-life Filipino heroes by providing the suits they needed by launching a fundraising campaign called #SuitsForHeroes.
N/A
To promote the campaign, internationally-renowned Filipino comic book artists created artwork that paid tribute to the heroic frontliners. The list of contributors includes Leinil Yu (X-Men, Civil War), Stephen Segovia (Wonder Woman), Kajo Baldisimo (Trese, Buffy), Whilce Portacio (X-Men), Mico Suayan, and Harvey Tolibao (Green Lantern) with Levi Ramirez on colors. These exclusive pieces were also put up for auction to raise additional funds. All #SuitsForHeroes proceeds were donated to NGOs that actively supply frontliners with much-needed PPEs: Kaya Natin and the Philippine General Hospital Medical Foundation Incorporated.
