Write a short summary of what happens in the film.

‘The Sleepy Town With a Snoring Problem’, is a short film featuring residents from small New South Wales coastal town, Tuross Head, who were struggling to get a decent night’s sleep thanks to their snoring partners. The town symbolised a microcosm of Australia’s sleep apnoea problem. The film tells the story of how the sleepless residents of Tuross Head reach out to local snorers by creating bespoke ads around the town - including ads on local community radio station, 2EAR FM, full-page ads in the local weekly newspaper, Narooma News, banners throughout the town, personalised coasters at The Tuross Head Country Club and mobile billboard trucks - to persuade their partners to download SleepCheck and find out whether their snoring could be a sign of sleep apnoea.

Cultural / Context information for the jury

Sleep apnoea affects up to 1 in 5 of the adult population in Australia but 80% of these people go undiagnosed. Untreated, sleep apnoea has been linked to serious complications such as heart disease, hypertension, stroke and type 2 diabetes, and has a major impact on population health. Deloitte Access Economics estimates that OSA costs the Australian economy $21.2 billion annually.

Tell the jury about the casting process.

Tuross Head is a small town on NSW’s Sapphire coast. We needed to find the partners of snorers from the town to feature in our film about the health complications associated with snoring. So, we headed to the country club, to talk to the manager. Having, over pulling pints, heard a fair few yarns of snoring partners causing sleepless nights, he helped us cast a diverse cast of local snorers and their partners from the local community - all non-actors, who appeared on screen for the first time, to star in our film The Sleepy Town with A Snoring Problem.
