Write a short summary of what happens in the film.

The fantastical journey begins when Imma (Japan’s first virtual celebrity) wanders into a sake brewery and gains superpowers upon spreading her hands on fermenting rice. She then meets actress Haruka Ayase, singer songwriter Leah Dou and supermodel Behati Prinsloo Levine. They celebrate the power of Pitera and transform the world around them with manga patterns designed by New York-based artist Fantasista Utamaro

Cultural / Context information for the jury

For SK-II, the legend of Pitera began in an old sake brewery. A chance observation of an old Toji’s miraculously youthful-looking hands with a stark contrast to his wrinkled face unlocked the secret to the Power of Pitera.

Tell the jury about the animation used and summarise any relevant challenges or techniques.

Over three months with more than 25 artists, we took the design and illustration from the pack. We then deconstructed this, developed a frame by frame cel animation treatment. We 3D tracked the shots, rotoscoped the talent and objects, composited cel animation in the live action footage. The end result is a fantastical mix of live action and colourful 2.5D animation.
