The fantastical journey begins when Imma (Japan’s first virtual celebrity) wanders into a sake brewery and gains superpowers upon spreading her hands on fermenting rice. She then meets actress Haruka Ayase, singer songwriter Leah Dou and supermodel Behati Prinsloo Levine. They celebrate the power of Pitera and transform the world around them with manga patterns designed by New York-based artist Fantasista Utamaro
For SK-II, the legend of Pitera began in an old sake brewery. A chance observation of an old Toji’s miraculously youthful-looking hands with a stark contrast to his wrinkled face unlocked the secret to the Power of Pitera.
The brief was to create an engaging brand film for SKII, featuring Imma, Japan’s first-ever virtual celebrity. The editor travelled to Japan to work closely with the Director and the Production crew. "As an Editor, there's something unique about cutting on location, to feel the vibe of a city, the pace and colour, to have all your senses working overtime. I knew my experiences in Tokyo would influence the editing process - in a good way. At times it felt like the Director and I were collaborating on an artistic experiment. We spent hours extracting ’the golden moments', shifting and moving images around until we landed on a strong visual arch and narrative. For this particular film it was also important to enhance visuals with soundscapes. By crafting layers of sound design I was able to accent moments, this really helped bring the film to life and create more emotion.
