Write a short summary of what happens in the film.

We open in a fairground at night, it’s the same scene from the iconic fairground OAK commercial ten years ago. The camera focuses on a wall of teddy bears and plush toys - prizes for a carnival game. We see Sarge (the original protagonist) walk in and out of frame catching a few seconds of his “Hungrythirsty” rant. As he disappears one of the teddy bears comes to life and runs towards the camera. The bear starts a monologue, in a gruff atypically teddy-bear like voice. A floating balloon with an OAK product attached lands in the teddy’s paw. The Teddy tries to drink it but he can’t swallow, because he is a teddy bear. Chocolate milk spills everywhere staining his plush white fur. While one paw holds the OAK the other paw gestures towards the camera, pixelated, making it appear like he's giving us the rude finger.

Cultural / Context information for the jury

10 years after the launch of OAK 'Kill Hungrythirsty Dead' platform, we returned to the scene of the crime - the original fairground - recreating the original commercial from a different point of view, this time making one of the background characters the hero. In this film, a foul-mouthed Teddy comes to life and rants about OAK still being the only cure to Kill Hungrythirsty Dead.

Tell the jury about the visual effects and summarise any relevant challenges or techniques.

The overall animation style was based on a muppet design. A fairly simple animation idea but the director really wanted to keep the tactile characteristics of a hand puppet and steer clear of a fully CG animated look. In order to achieve this style an actor was filmed wearing the teddy bear costume which meant we couldn’t animate the mouth in-camera leading to a CG lip synced muzzle replacement. One of the biggest challenges was to integrate an animated mouth into a complex lighting scene. Not only was it important to track the mouth to the head but also match the environment lighting from the in-camera plate correctly. Carnival environment with lots of flashing lights made for a huge challenge for the 3D lighting and compositing team.
