Incredulously, the attack triggered numerous anonymous postings on social media and online bulletin boards expressing support for the killer. The Kanagawa prefecture governor sensed that a trend of hate toward minorities or persons with different attributes, along with the emergence of negative energy was occurring in japan and around the world. Announced in response was a prefecture-wide quest for diversity and inclusion (d&i). As the manifesto for realizing this “d&i” doctrine, the governor declared the transition “from hate to respect.” This is based on the premise that “people are all different,” effectively engineering the shift toward a society where hate for minorities or those different from oneself changes to respect for diversity.
