Bringing to life one of the most exciting parts of the festive season, snow makes it's way from the wintery wonderland of Finland to the tropics of Singapore, capturing the true spirit of Christmas between people halfway across the world from one another. It’s not just about snow from Finland being brought to Singapore, but also about strangers from around the world engaging in the true spirit of giving.
The brief was to simultaneously film Singapore and a snowy location across the globe and bring a white Christmas to Singapore via Coca Cola Vending Machines. Requiring us to shoot in early December made location scouting very difficult. We needed reliable high-speed internet and a webcam link from this location yet the places that were snowing were in the middle of nowhere lacking any sign of signal. We eventually found Santa’s Village, in the Arctic Circle in Finland. We also needed two Coca Cola vending machines produced, each with their own technical specifications adapted for their 'snow' functions. Due to the short timeline, we had to have both produced in Singapore and send one to Finland. It arrived at 2am the day of the shoot and we didn’t even have time to prep and test it. We were also without an additional dongle and couldn't use a laptop inside the machine remotely. This meant climbing up the ladder to adjust when required. Our hero boy chipped his front tooth, which led to last minute casting. We were lucky to find a wonderful replacement. With only a small window to film due to the limited daylight hours in the Arctic Circle, we didn’t really have room for delays but on the day of the shoot we endured rain in Singapore despite the season. We turned this shoot around in less than 2.5 weeks and it was possible because we really did make the best use of resources available to us.
