A couple is sitting faced each other at their home when he asks his wife to sign their divorce papers. She agrees on one condition: that he hug her every day for the rest of the month. They meet at different locations, each time she asks him whether he remembers what made each place so special. He doesn’t remember but soon she reminds him that every place marked a milestone in their relationship: where he proposed, where he first said “I love you”, where they first kissed, etc. He hugs her in all these places, with every hug his position softens as he enjoys her proximity and her smooth beautiful hair. When she has signed the papers, she meets him in the same place where they first met. But now he’s the one who has a change of heart. When she leaves, after giving him the signed divorce papers, he asks her if he can hug her the next day. She doesn’t say a word, she just smiles and walks away. A super appears: “3 million people got divorced in China last year. Over 100,000 married each other again. End line: “Love. Don’t let it go”.
Film opens with Faye alone in a bed, looking concerned. Caption: The End Sean and Faye sit across from each other in their living room. A heavy silence looms. Separating them is a coffee table on which rests a document. On closer inspection, we see that it is a divorce agreement that already has Sean’s signature on it, with the other signature space still blank. Faye looks up at Sean. We can tell she has been crying as her tears well up again. Sean lowers his eyes in an attempt to avoid her gaze. Faye finally speaks. Faye: Okay. I’ll sign. Just one last request... I’d like you to hold me, once a day, in the next month. Sean looks uncomfortable but gives in to the request and walks off. Faye stares blankly at the document, as Sean leaves with his belongings. Caption: The Proposal Faye waits for Sean at a rooftop bar of a building. He arrives. Sean: Faye. Faye: Remember when you proposed to me? It was here. You knelt and gave this to me. Faye shows him the wedding ring she is wearing, looking at Sean wistfully. Faye: You said…It’s for life. Sean doesn’t know what to say as he feels awkward. Faye takes a step forward and says.. Faye: Please hold me. Sean gives her a hug and gently strokes her soft hair. He cannot help but notice how smooth and beautiful her hair is. It has been a while since they last hugged each other. When they withdraw from each other it is evident that she is emotional and downcast. She walks away without saying anything else. Confused, Sean stands there watching her leave. Caption: The Vow Sean hurries because he is running behind time. Faye has been waiting for him on a pier. Sean apologises for being late. Sean: Hi, I’m sorry... Faye does not let him finish and says... Faye: This is where you first said: “I love you...” Sean is again ill at ease. He looks around, yes, he remembers. He then looks down. Chained to the metallic fence on the bridge are numerous lovelocks left by lovers from all over. It does not take long for Sean to find the one he left there years ago, the one with their initials carved on it. A somewhat sentimental Sean looks up at Faye and is taken aback. He reaches forward and takes her in his arms. She looks happy in his arms. Caption: The First Kiss Faye is sitting on stairs, crying. She wipes her tears as Sean arrives late and apologizes. Sean: Sorry I’m late. We came here before, didn’t we? Faye: You remember? This is the place where we first kissed. They both smile at each other as Faye walks up to Sean and hugs him. Fade to Black It is Sean’s turn to wait this time. He notices Faye approaching from the distance. There is newfound confidence in her walk as she smiles and immediately proceeds to hug him. The hug is short-lived as Faye withdraws quickly, pushes him away and says.. Faye: I’ve signed. Faye takes out the divorce papers from her handbag and hands them over to him. Sean looks surprised. She then flashes him a quick and sweet smile, then turns to leave. It dawns on him that this is the place where they first met. Caption: The Beginning Flashback: The younger versions of them bump into each other as their belongings fall down. They help one another pick it up. Her long hair hangs beautifully down one side of her head. He can’t help but notice how beautiful she looks with her gorgeous hair. They get up together. She walks away, turns back and smiles at him. He watches her as she disappears into the crowd. Back to Present: A new realization suddenly dawns on Sean as he utters her name.. Sean: Faye.. He runs off frantically after her. He spots her in the distance and yells.. Sean: Can I still hug you tomorrow? Faye stops, turns and looks at him with an assured smile. A smile that leaves us wondering what her answer will be. Caption: Love, don’t let it go. She smiles, turns and walks away. SUPER: 3 million couples divorced in China last year. Almost 100,000 came back and remarried each other. #IBelieveInLoveAgain
