The Gift is about a mother who longs to be reunited with her son during the Khmer New Year - one of the most important family celebrations in Cambodia. As mothers do, she misses him after a prolonged absence. Her son’s busy work schedule does not afford him time to return for the New Year celebrations. In spite of this, he overcomes distance by calling his mother to mark the occasion. The film depicts Cambodian culture, where family members show deference to customs and traditions. Intertwined with the challenges of being separated from loved ones, the elements of homesickness and filial piety make for a heart-tugging ad.
