Brief Explanation

Mum hands a bottle of Total Comfort to her baby, which he accepts with an enthusiastic smile. As he starts drinking, he's transported into his own stomach - a magical world where his favourite toys come to life, where there are no sharp edges, where cows can fly, monkeys read to you and bears dance. As the characters are swept along in this fantastical milky hued world, the baby takes his last sip of Total Comfort only to be brought back to his nursery room. As his mother tucks him in and leaves the room, the camera pans around and reveals the product on the table. Around it we can recognize some of the happy companions of the baby’s journey and the Abbott bear winks at us. The start of another magical is about to start...

Creative Execution

We used a mix of 2D and 3D animation. 1. Character design and modelling: We designed the characters first as sketches and once the drawings were approved built them in 3D. Finally painted the outside shell of the model to give it colours and textures (make it look like materials, skin, fabric, wood). 3. Set design: We established what our environments looked like with initial sketches at the start of production and Matte Painted at a higher level of detail. 2. Animation: The animators worked very much like puppeteers, they moved the model in the 3D space using the control points and put each key position in a timeline with the computer generating the in-between positions. Once the animation has been approved we set the lighting in each scene. Rendering is to apply the lighting set-ups to the 3D objects in each frame of each shot so we can see the result, how it affects textures etc. This is one of the most time consuming tasks in the process as it involves a lot of data processing and machine time to fine tune the set-ups. Rendering is also processing all that is virtual data inside the software to export each layer from each frame as an actual picture file that can be assembled in the compositing. In a way this would be the equivalent of the lab process in film.
