Turn the lowest sales into hope. We have faced many losses as the new coronavirus changed our life. In Japan as well, an "emergency declaration" was issued from April to May 2020, limiting people's actions. Meanwhile, department stores Seibu and Sogo were forced to close, and sales were sluggish even after reopening. June-November sales hit a record low. But can we only be pessimistic about this number? January 1, 2021 when Japan faced the new year still having the locked down feeling remained, we released a movie showing a single receipt stating the actual number of items sold during the past year. The items featured here are all items that are not needed under the current circumstances, such as lipsticks and suitcases. Starting with a single receipt, it encouraged consumers' purchasing behavior.

(Catchphrase) This receipt became a list of hopes. (Text: Receipt) Sogo & Seibu Co.,Ltd. <RECEIPT> Item Quantity ------------------------------------- Suitcases 662 Lipsticks 76,175 Yukatas 475 Pairs of high heels 1,001 Baby gifts 566 This is a sales record at Sogo and Seibu from June to November, 2020. ------------------------------------- COVID-19 restricted daily activities in 2020. Still…For the day when we can travel freely, 662 customers purchased suitcases. To enjoy one’ s makeup even under a mask, 76,175 customers bought a lipstick. For the summer festival that was cancelled, 475 yukatas were purchased. For the day when one can walk down the street in style, 1,001 pairs of high heels were purchased. To celebrate the newborns, 566 sets of baby gifts were purchased. Even though the days were full of stumbling blocks, each "one" kept trying to make the most of today. We learned something important from the shopping receipt. What department stores sell and what customers seek was not just tangible goods. It was hope that the department stores were selling. I am who I am. SEIBU SOGO
