Background

The COVID-19 pandemic has wreaked havoc across the world. As each country scrambles to keep the spread of this virus under control, our mental health is also quietly being threatened. *40% of adults struggling with mental health during COVID-19(U.S. CDC).

In the face of this pandemic, spreading laughter is more important than ever.

Describe the strategy

In Taiwan, we have a unique sense of humor. From our public transport to the drinks covers in breakfast shops, in often unexpected places, we use jokes to lighten the mood and spread happiness. What we've discovered is that even a smile has the power to relieve stress and improve our immunity, and grant us the strength to fight this disease. *Laughing can produce calming and have anti-anxiety benefits(Lee S. Berk, DrPH).

Describe the execution

We've collaborated with Yuan Ze University, combining some of the best classic jokes with emotion-detecting technology to produce 「FaciaLab」, engineered to bring a smile to your face. No matter if you're alone, or hidden in a crowd, you can't hide a bad mood from us. Through interacting in voice with our AI, we invite people to enjoy some stress relief in our FaciaLab. They can turn around their emotions and laugh out loud for the world to hear. Spreading positive emotions also helps others through this pandemic.

List the results

In just a short time, FaciaLab quickly allowed laughter to infect the whole campus(over 1,000 visitors). It attracted the attention of over 15 media outlets(media impression over 2 million). FaciaLab successfully relieved the mental stress of those struggling through this pandemic, and allowed the power of laughter to be felt far and wide.
