The film gives the audience a fly-on-the-wall view of their growing fondness for each other, which grows into falling in love online, even though they have never met offline. Cultural / Context information for the jury

milestones and goals while putting their love life on the back burner. Lonely Singaporean women take to online dating websites and apps in hope of finding their Prince Charming. In recent years, these sites have become the hunting ground for online scammers who prey on the emotions of lonely women and rob them of their hard earned life’s savings. The National Crime Prevention Council wanted to create awareness of these online love scams and warn women of the dangers of meeting these so called Prince Charmings online. Taking inspiration from real online love scams, we wanted any woman who has “fallen” for the charms of their online lovers to ensure, before offering financial support, they are actually conversing with a real person rather than just the photograph they see in the online profile.

Tell the jury anything relevant about the direction. Do not name the director.

To bring this subtle, yet powerful idea to life, the director took inspiration from real online love scams. Studying every aspect of these scams, the director was able to draw the viewer into the world of “Ella” and give them a fly-on-the-wall view of how her world begins to crumble the moment she matches with her online scammer. From recreating the mood of loneliness of Ella before she signs up, to building in key moments – long chats, witty banter, the director subtly shows us how the online scammer charms his way into her life and draws her into his scam. Playing with camera angles and creating movement in the background, the director successfully is able to trick the audience into believing the cardboard is a real person. Only to reveal the scam to the audience at the same time as the film’s protagonist discovers she is scammed too.
