When waiting for her bus to work in the morning, a nurse witnesses a motorcycle accident and runs to help. The film then moves through the perspectives of other characters when they breathe in and out, asking and receiving help. We're shown the vital role Aware Super members, including nurses, doctors, paramedics, firefighters, teachers and police officers, have in the communities they serve each and every day. The work ends on the nurse in her workplace, looking at the motorcyclist she's saved.
The edit for Aware Super crafts portraits of multiple different characters. The chosen frames are filled with little details about the characters — what their uniforms look like, the marks or debris on their skin, the shifting weight of their body language. These aren't overly explained, just small hints that give depth — that make these people real in a short amount of time. The decision to focus on authenticity when crafting the edit, makes the film successful in not feeling like an ad, but a series of real experiences. The edit splits each moment into three parts inspired by the movements of breathing, ‘Inhale’, ‘Hold’ and ‘Exhale’. Each time these movements are cycled through, a bit more is revealed about the situations and the characters. With each additional piece of the puzzle, we’re pulled deeper into the emotion of the work. The visual metaphor of a collective, deep breath.
