Shibuya, the epicenter of japan’s youth culture. The man dashing through its streets in a pair of inline skates is WW man, the poster boy of WW. While skating jauntily, he notices a no skating sign and is forced to change direction. A security guard stops him. Onlookers take pictures and post them online without permission. He gets away from such a reality that plagues skaters and skates on the walls and rooftops of buildings unchallenged. A drone chases him, but he takes a big leap to dodge it. (drones are banned in tokyo.) He runs up 109, shibuya’s landmark, and leaps off. He lands in front of a police box, but is too fast to make a clean landing. It impresses upon the tagline of the new watch brand WW, unlocking the potential of those who are expressing themselves on the streets in ways that are unique to them.
To embody "UNLOCK YOU", we've done some outside-of-the-box staffing. Young people, the target audience, can detect the non-genuine article, so we hired a 24-year-old music video director with no advertising experience. To portray the new Shibuya, the cameraman was brought in from LA instead of Japan. Also, to create the uniqueness and interest of the most important characters, we felt a foreign company that expands computer graphics would be more suitable than a Japanese company that makes no mistakes, so we selected one from Buenos Aires after viewing many reels. Movements of the characters are motion-captured from professional skaters, but the wide range of movement requires a huge studio at huge costs. Therefore, we adopted a motion capture suit used by Vtubers to capture movement. In addition to the movie, the data was used for movements of characters that appear on the web, AR, and OOH, reducing the overall budget.
