Summary

For 285 million blind and visually impaired people worldwide, the world remains inaccessible. Only 3% of all content is available in braille, and existing conventional technology is expensive, impractical and outdated. With no alternative to braille, the impact is significant—especially in education where 90% of people who can’t read braille are unemployed. Since 2015, Dot Technology has been under continuous development, with its first integration into the first braille smartwatch Dot Watch in 2016. It was later integrated into Dot Mini in 2017 and released as a standalone product in 2019. Today, it has so far translated over 20 million words and is being further developed for use in accessible facilities. From the first braille smartwatch with patented Actuator technology at its core, to translating over 20 million words worth of previously inaccessible content using machine learning, Dot technology is continuously developed for further day-to-day accessibility. Through hardware and software, Dot reduces size, weight, and price by up to 10 times compared to conventional braille technology. Now, Dot looks to the future, by integrating its technology into public spaces for smart city needs, making the world more accessible and inclusive for all blind and visually impaired persons, dot by dot.
