Background

Ritsurin Garden, the largest garden in Japan. For more than 200 years, it has been known for the beautiful scenery with koi fish. In 2018, an outbreak of koi herpes virus occurred. To prevent pandemic, all koi fish were put to death.

Describe the creative idea (40% of vote)

Shikoku Newspaper, the local newspaper company, stood up to restore koi fish in the garden. We wanted to convey the story of koi fish overcoming disease, and encourage the local community.

"Seven-hundred Views of Koi Fish— Celebrating the Revival of Ritsurin Garden". On the day 700 koi fish were released, we held a special exhibition in Ritsurin Garden. Inspired by traditional Japanese paintings, we depicted the story of koi fish's return throughout the venue.

List the results (20% of vote)

More than 500 people arrived at the exhibition. It was covered on local TV network. We turned the local news into an art experience, celebrating the revival of koi fish and Ritsurin Garden.
