Life Lessons from the Last Indigenous Cultures ------------------------------------------------------------------ The United Nations World Day to celebrate our cultural diversity. A day to celebrate the last few indigenous tribes left on earth. The last humans who have resisted the homogenous race of humanity, choosing to stay different and rooted to their own cultural identity. In times like this when we need to come together as one human race, its important to respect and celebrate our cultural diversity. It’s what make us beautiful and different as a species.

Background

Challenge: Indigenous tribes are endangered in their own ancient habitats and their cultural identity is under threat. Inspiration: Now is the time to acknowledge and celebrate the world’s last indigenous communities, remarkable examples of how humans can live in perfect harmony with themselves, their unique cultures and the natural world. #SOS Save Our Sentinels is an iconography of the last indigenous tribes that celebrates their cultural identity – a powerful photographic documentary and cultural commentary on the last sentinels of our natural reserves. The film captures the work of legendary photographer Jimmy Nelson through this life changing film, with music that elevates the narrative by delivering important lessons from the world’s last Indigenous Tribes. The film’s release was timed to coincide with United Nations World Day for Cultural Diversity, presenting an opportunity to deepen understanding of diversity and how humans can live together in harmony.

Describe the creative idea (20% of vote)

Celebrate nature’s last watchmen standing still. The last sentinels of our natural reserves standing still in spite of human progress, read as human greed, standing still to protect their family trees and forests from land grabbers, fossil fuel exploiters and mining corporations standing still as the sentinels of mother earth in the wake of climate change, standing still as water rises and volcanoes breathe standing still as forest fires rage and clouds dance standing still as rainbows disappear into the rain standing still as an endangered tribe in their own ancient habitats standing still in spite of the threat of extinction of their identity. The guardians of ancient culture. The guardians of our future. The children of Mother Nature. Standing still in a series of still photographs. Blink. And They’re Gone. -------------------------------- #SOS SAVE OUR SENTINELS Released on the United Nations World Day for Cultural Diversity.

Describe the strategy (20% of vote)

Save Our Sentinels is a powerful visual commentary on the cultural identity of the last sentinels of our natural reserves, the last 36 indigenous tribes standing still, in rare still photographs. Stitched together from thousands of original documented photographs of the last few indigenous tribes interspersed with the rarest footage of their ancient habitats. The celebration of the indigenous builds from life lessons to life threatening moments revealing that the indigenous people are an endangered tribe in their own ancient habitats. The film celebrates the last few indigenous tribes for standing still in spite of the threat to their cultural identity and their own forest lands. Blink. And They’re Gone.
