The Chinese supplement product market is currently saturated with products with similar look and feel. In order to appeal to the younger generations who are normally resistant to Chinese supplement, we were asked to redesign the packaging of Motiv to bring its unique positioning to life - tradition Chinese medicine formula delivered through modern technologies. In addition to meeting the functional requirements, reconstructing the chaotic packaging system and standing out in supplement product market, Motiv is dedicated to attracting individuals with young mind and courage to try, helping them better understand the brand and impressing them with an immersive and personalized experience, in order to further accumulate the brand visual equalities.
Motiv believes that a healthy body is the foundation of a healthy mind. We wanted to express this philosophy in a light-hearted way through design language: maintaining a balance between the mind and body. We interpreted our brand concepts through the following approaches. First, we designed a bottle inspired by the spinning top, a classic toy that can be spun on an axis, balancing on a point – this serves as a precise metaphor to represent our brand’s belief. Secondly, when the bottles are put together in display, a form of organic cells will appear as a smart interpretation of our cutting-edge technologies. While the bottles emerge into a meaningful structure on-shelf, providing a strong visual impact from afar and facilitating consumers’ navigation among the ocean of health supplement products.
We stripped away from traditional health supplement packaging and simplified the packaging format by introducing smart design methods. The product range is segmented through a confident and striking color palette. And the craft and quality of the caps added a soft touch while the bodies displayed our bold statement. Besides, we factored in methods to control packaging cost by introducing rationalized packaging through design thinking. Therefore, everything, from the shape and form of the bottles through the bold use of colours and statements were all thoroughly crafted to articulate and evoke the spirit of Motiv. The rebranding of Motiv resolves the problems of packaging system disorder, providing immersive in-store experience for consumers. Furthermore, it also presents the impression of young and health, and innovates ways of taking supplement products through packaging. Motiv has been highly regarded in the design world, which has been Nominated for D&AD and Pentawards, and also won The Drum Design Awards of 3D packaging design.
