Write a short summary of what happens in the film

The Z.N.E. hoodie embodies an athlete’s “born ready” attitude and when ripped, unleashes a manifestation of ultra-readiness for their game. Each film opens with real-world live-action of athlete and as they rip their hoodie open to unleash their inner strength. Game on! The hero moment happens as animated content explodes outwards taking over the screen. Travelling through a range of metaphoric elements that speak to the athlete and their sport, showing energetic journeys of their game mode elements with multiple animation scenes before the screen tears away. Hyper-real sound design that yields way for pulsating musical elements. It’s bombastic and dynamic sound design carry us throughout the piece, building energy towards the climax. This mimic the motion of the hoodie’s iconic zip where you can RIP and UNLEASH.

Cultural/Context information for the jury

Every film story-tell each athlete’s unleashed element in their game. Speed + football = Gareth Bale’s unparalleled burning hot speed like The Fast Racer. Precise + elegant = David Beckham precise kicks on court like The Sharp Eagle. Swimmer + Quiet = Ning Zetao swims against the tide like The Stamina Wave. Girl next door + explosiveness = Zhang Chang Ning China female volleyball player who is represented by The Unbeatable Cat, a sub-culture icon in China. The cute look has a link to girl next door and most importantly, the waving arms of lucky cat’s share resemblance to power spike in volleyball. With added element of mushroom cloud as another metaphor of how powerful and destructible the aftermath of her spikes on the other side of court.

Tell the jury about type(s) of animation used and summarise any relevant challenges or techniques.

A mix of animation approaches was employed but primarily cel animation, a technique where each frame is drawn by hand. This enabled us to include dynamic poses, stylized movements which embraced foreshortening and exaggerated angles where movements are fast and aggressive, yet smooth. Each film begins with real-world ambience as we see the live-action athlete. With hyper-real sound design that yields way for dramatization as they rip open the hoodie, a stylized tearing sound pulls you into the gritty, raw world of animation. Animated textures add an energy, grunge and raw quality to the film. Clever transitions take you through multiple scenes within 10 seconds, with a use of changing camera angles, with a mix of close ups and wide shots. Complemented with bombastic and dynamic sound design carries us throughout the film, building energy towards the climax.
