Write a short summary of what happens in the film

Offering a glimpse into the personal life of world champion surfer Stephanie Gilmore, this film provides a rare insight into her rigorous training and personal passions in a genuine and engaging way. We see Stephanie training in a pool, taking photographs, mucking around on her guitar and we follow her down to the beach where she heads into the surf at the break of dawn. Stephanie's voice was recorded from a series of interviews, which are used with the imagery, to craft the narrative of the piece. Stephanie talks about creativity, what inspires her, and how those two things intersect in her life. She talks about what surfing has taught her about photography and what photography has taught her about surfing.

Cultural/Context information for the jury

Stephanie Gilmore is one of Australia’s most beloved professional surfers and a seven-time world champion. She has dominated women's professional surfing since she entered the scene in 2007 - winning her first world title, followed by three consecutive world titles, an accomplishment no other surfer has achieved in the history of men's or women's surfing. Beyond her World Titles, Stephanie has 24 Elite World Tour victories. Stephanie has also been awarded both the Laureus World Sports Award in 2010, considered the most prestigious award in action sports worldwide, and the ESPN ESPY for Best Female Action Sports Athlete in 2011 and 2013. In between competitions on the World Surf League tour, Stephanie is an avid photographer who enjoys traveling the globe and documenting her adventures.

Tell the jury anything relevant about the edit. Do not name the editor.

We worked with the Director to control the pace of the edit so that the viewer could feel the fluctuation of Gilmore’s life, from the manic to the calm. Using rhythm allowed us to get the balance right between the action of these scenes, holding some shots extra-long, pulling the viewer in, then adding textural layers with quicker cut sequences. This helped us showcase the intensity of what it's like to train as an elite athlete, fiercely committed to her craft and the pursuit of perfection. By using beautiful images shifting and changing, building towards a trailer style ending we were also able to illustrate Stephanie’s passion for photography in a truly inspiring way. Helping enhance the visual story, the editor was also responsible for all sound design and effects enabling us to influence and elicit an audience's emotional response.
