LESLIE: Here I go, my first nationals. It’s been a long, rigorous journey.
I remember doing my first split at 10. All those years, I spent 50 hours of training a week. Get up at 5AM. Throw on my leotards. Hit the mats. Roundoff. Back handspring. Back tuck. Repeat.
Hit the bars. Swing loops--over and over.
But my trainer told me I stink.
SFX: VIBRATING BARS
So, I trained until my legs turned jello. 90-second balance on the beam. Somersault. Dismount. I earned every point.
SFX: MUTED CHEERS
And for my winning move… Double on double layout Finish mid-air with a half-twist!
But despite all of that… My trainer still told me,
I stink.
