[Adventure of Baedal Minjok] The idea of this film was to bring the character, Beadal Jr. (which in Korean means ‘delivery’) to life. We first launched a prequel that tells us foods even with different nationality and backgrounds can all be part of our nation, and made each menu as an independent piece. This stop motion film ‘ICE CREAM CAKE’ is one of the short independent pieces of Adventure of Baedal Minjok- Delivery of the restaurant food. Somewhere in Antartica, Baedal Jr. is enjoying his peaceful time with the penguins. Then all of a sudden, the ice shelf cracks and parts the penguin friends and Baedal Jr. apart. The ice cream cake piece which was the ice burg slowly gets pulled apart from the penguin cake. This short stop motion film ends with the message ‘Ice cream cakes have now joined <Baedal Minjok>, The Nation of Home Delivery.’
We mainly focused on food so we casted the food itself, which is the essential of delivery services instead of casting famous actors. The Baedal Jr. character that was only used inside the company was brought in this campaign among with exaggeration of food texture. We needed to express the challengeable, passionate but unrefined young CEO, and the character Baedal Jr. was our best choice. Choosing the appropriate voice actor for Baedal Jr was as important as the stop motion process. Several voice actors were considered but our final selection was ‘Ahn Jae-hong’ who played the role of ‘Jeong-bong’ in ‘Reply 1988’. The casting of ‘Jeong-bong’ appeared to be an excellent choice. Jeong-bong’s voice was widely recognized by the public and this helped the campaign spread virally.
