The Campaign

“EXISDANCE” is an innovative creation combining latest high speed tracking and projection mapping technology with dance and martial arts. An amazing aspect of this project is the reactivity of the tracking and projection mapping process. The projector can reach a frame rate of 1920 frames per second in Full HD resolution. Unity 3D was used for the real-time rendering part, that allowed us to integrate complex CG data and animations. With this new system, the performer (or any object to be projected on) can move very swiftly like it is in the case of martial arts, and has a total freedom regarding the choreography. This unique combination of hardware and software is expected to be used in various fields such as amusement parks, sports, entertainment and staging applications.

Creative Execution

During CES 2016, we introduced a first high-speed tracking and projection mapping project: “Animated Cloth”. At that time, we perceived the potential of such a system for the entertainment industry. Since then, we have upgraded many aspects, especially we increased the quality of the tracking and now are able to project on bigger scales. After spending one and a half years, we released a new project, Real time Tracking & Projection Mapping “EXISDANCE” that was premiered at InfoComm in June 2017. One of the key points of the system is the projector that we used, which is capable to provide a framerate of 1920 frames per seconds in Full HD resolution. With its brightness of 10,000 lumens, we could do the projection on a scale of w4000mm x h2400mm. The projector also contains embedded sensors that can measure the position of a performer or an object at a rate of 1000 times per seconds. With such a system, it becomes possible to move at high speed, allowing martial arts or free choreography. Additionally, we have developed a module that can tracks object rotation and then handle subtle 3D gestures. Also, we used the rendering engine Unity3D for the real-time rendering. It simplified the integration of CG data and animations. It also permits to extend the range of expression of the 3D content. Our partner also a maker at the same time has established in-house company specializes in entertainment field such as amusement park, stadium, integrated resort, and so on. This unique hardware is expected to be used in various fields. “EXISDANCE” represents a new step in real-time projection mapping and reveal an interesting look on the future of live stage show.
