“This is where” is an ode to Singapore as a nation of possibilities. It’s an anthem to showcase that beneath the glossy exterior, beneath the bright city lights, there’s something else that burns brightly. Passion. It’s the passion of every Singaporean who calls the city-state home. By taking the focus away from the landmarks and tourist attractions, and letting Singaporeans tell the Singapore story, the film gives viewers a different perspective to this island. Featuring real people, and not actors, the film invites viewers to participate in the passions that Singaporeans wake up for every morning. Whether it be indoor skydiving, Teochew opera, backstreet artistry of art in museums, hawker food or Michelin-starred meals, mixology or music, Singapore is the land that has given its inhabitants endless possibilities and now invites the world to come share these passions, for a day, a week or a decade.
The vision of the cast was to use real Singaporeans, not actors. Our pre-production selection had no age, no gender, no body type specifications. But authenticity, diversity and passion. It was about selecting the people of Singapore who have a deep love for what they do and have turned their dreams into reality. It wasn't just a casting call for the nation's superstars and celebrities, but everyday Singaporeans who are pursuing their passions. We did a massive search across different passions to find fellow Singaporeans who have turned 'what ifs' into 'what's next'. And through them, we showcased a different location, a different texture, a different possibility of Singapore each time. People being themselves reveals more about the character of Singapore than any camera trick or music track ever could. So that’s what we capture. The people.
