Brief Explanation

The film is set in Ancient China, and the plot revolves around the Emperor, his Empress and their three daughter in-laws. In lieu of the Lunar New Year, the Empress instructed for her three daughter in-laws to each prepare a dish for dinner. She was looking to be impressed. When the dishes were served, the Empress was not satisfied at all. Fuming, she was about to unleash her fury, but was stopped by the Emperor. He suggested something out of the ordinary, to put the dishes together as one. As it turns out, the unique mix of flavours by putting the three dishes together did the trick, and they had a joyous Lunar Year dinner.

The Brief

As seen in the film, there were multiple sets which were required. This includes the main hall, and the 3 kitchens. The set that was built had to resemble old Chinese dynasties, while the kitchens had to keep true to its oriental roots. All the props used throughout the film were carefully researched for its authenticity, with the exception of the modern television and hand phone. The massive challenge was creating a larger than life scale set that would allow the camera freedom to move, without repeating the angles. However, the team managed to pull through and the effect is clear. A very authentic set, that translated well on screen.
