As various new online learning services have sprung up in recent years, the goal was to raise the brand awareness and subscriber growth of U-CAN, which provides correspondence education services through textbook materials. So what we did to push home the true value of correspondence education that “anyone, on an equal playing field, can learn anytime and anywhere”, we zeroed in on the most mysterious of human companions, the cat. We fabricated cat-specific teaching materials and portrayed a charming and emotional picture of them secretly studying how to cheer up their lonely owners. All the way to even the final logo cut scene, through the storyline as though this were an advertisement for actual cat-specific teaching materials, we wanted more people to feel the value of correspondence education.
The actress playing the 80 year old lady was an amateur. Ms. Toyama was an ordinary woman who lived on a farm in the prefecture of Nagano, where the film was shot, for over 60 years, with absolutely no previous acting experience. We met her while scouting out the filming location and fell in love with her charming personage and convinced her to take the acting role. Her husband had actually passed away too. The tears she sheds in the second half of the film are real tears that spilled out unscripted as she reminisced about her husband during filming, and the depth of her realness blended perfectly with the weight of our production.
