The Campaign

‘Resize My Home’ is an interactive web experience that brings the chilling reality of dolphins in captivity to your screen. Created as a campaign website for the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, it utilises a web browser's ability to be resized to show the hardships of dolphins kept in enclosures. Upon landing, visitors are treated to a delightful sight of dolphins swimming freely. There, users can use their cursor to interact with the dolphins in a few ways that were designed to emulate a dolphin’s natural swimming, playing and movement patterns in the wild. Eventually, visitors are invited to resize their browser. As they do, an enclosure is drawn around the dolphins. When the browser is resized further, the enclosure is gradually reduced in size, causing a pod of dolphins to be squeezed in an ever smaller and more uncomfortable space.

Creative Execution

‘Resize My Home’ is a desktop experience that utilised a browser’s resizing function to bring out the chilling reality of dolphins in captivity. The site was built primarily in WebGL. Extensive research went into ensuring that our dolphins closely emulated natural behaviour. Four cursor actions gave the user an added level of interactivity, allowing users to play with the dolphins. This provided our user a heightened experience, deepening the emotional bond to the dolphins. To deliver a seamless experience as the browser was being resized, the reacted if the user did not resize their browser as directed. Audio supported the entire experience, accurately reflecting the way in which dolphins vocalise according to their emotional state. Through this interactive encounter, our user discovered the plight of dolphins in captivity. They were then led to a page where they could pledge their support, taking a stand against dolphin enclosures.
