Brief Explanation

After a classical concert, the audience gives a standing ovation and slowly starts leaving the hall, still taking in the lingering sounds of the performance. Suddenly, they hear beautiful sounds, produced by aesthetically appealing glasses with note shaped ice cubes. Everyone relives the experience of the concert, as they - one by one, and then all together - perform "Libiamo" with the glasses in their hands. Suntory Hall's world-class acoustics and Suntory's quality beverages are staged exquisitely.

Creative Execution

To meet the standards of Suntory Hall’s exquisite acoustics and Suntory’s internationally recognized whiskies, we wanted to combine both: the sound and the drink. So we created a hybrid of a drink and a musical instrument: The Glassical Instrument. The Glassical Instrument is the symbiosis of drink and instrument never seen before, and the utmost elegant evolution of the glass harmonica. It works solely with a glass, ice, and Whisky, and can be handled to produce sound by everybody: First, we employed a Japanese patented technology called “Ice Mold” to produce seamless quarter notes of ice. A note-shape ice cube in a glass of whisky – this already looks like a piece of art. The next step was tuning: We hauled more than 300 different types of glasses to the Suntory Big Concert Hall and spent hour after hour of experimenting in order to find the best sound. Our tuning process involved trying countless combinations of glass shapes, sizes, and thicknesses, of different liquids, and filling levels.
