The simple black and white illustrations visualize and accentuate the keywords of the narration. The technique of filming a handmodel analogically moving the print-out illustrations, as well as stopmotion techniques, make it easy to follow the actions on screen, even when viewed on a smartphone. The core message is conveyed lightheartedly via a simple storyline that allows the viewer to identify with the main characters and commit the message to memory.
The video was generelly very well received and especially praised for the sympathetic drawing style and storyline. Originally intended as safety measure in Nara park, the video is mostly viewed on site. However, especially foreigners that saw the video without having been to Nara park mentioned that it had sparked their interest to go and visit the area of Nara in order to be able to take pictures with the deer and experience the nature there. Therefore the video even exceeded its mission and has also become a tool to raise awareness and increase visitors for Nara park.
Nara is an ancient city in Japan, famous for ist temples and shrines. Especially well known is the Nara park, in which vast numbers of deer roam free and can be approached by visitors. However, as the deer are still wild animals, safety instructions are necessary to ensure neither humans nor animals will be harmed. Looking for a way to convey these instructions in a positive way, the strategy was to create an explaner video that is accessible via the free wifi inside Nara park.
