Subaru’s EyeSight™ is a driver assist technology that automatically detects obstacles in a car’s path and brings the car to a stop, effectively preventing collisions. Equipped with EyeSight, these mini-cars automatically come to a stop when they encounter an obstacle. When the mini-cars are moving, their headlights are illuminated, and as they come to a stop, their brake lights come on in conjunction with the EyeSight function. Our mini-car movie shows a dream world as visualized by Subaru. Utilizing the EyeSight function and blinking lights, countless mini-cars flow, safely collision-free, through a magical glittering world. The film was shot entirely with battery-powered mini-cars, using no special computer graphics or image effects. NOTE: The mini-cars were originally created as take-home premiums for customers who take a test-drive at Subaru dealerships.
Because we believed that realistic depiction of the EyeSight function was the best way to convey the benefits of this Subaru technology, the film was shot without any computer effects, emphasizing the actual performance of EyeSight. Marshaling a squadron of more than 300 minicars, we filmed each individual scene. Due to budget limitations, we crafted our set from low-cost materials such as cardboard and transparent film. The original vocals and accompaniment were recorded in a single take, creating the feeling of a live performance and adding depth and immediacy to the sequence of images to draw the viewer in.
