Brief Explanation

China lacks a running culture. To most people, running was a punishment they experienced when they misbehaved at school. So, non-runners are confused as to why anyone would subject themselves to such a boring, exhausting and purposeless activity. We wanted to inspire people to reconsider running by offering different perspectives on the ‘Why run?’ question using authentic stories from authentic runners. In Mr. Sun, we found an inspirational running rebel and the perfect embodiment of Nike’s Just Do It spirit. Despite being 74 years old, he has not let age define who he is or how he behaves. In China, the elderly are expected to take a back seat in life. However, Mr. Sun is living proof that the athlete spirit has no expiration date. Our film brings the audience into the routine of Mr. Sun who still runs for an hour every day. We follow him as he gets dressed, exits his apartment and runs through the streets of Taiyuan. A super describes how the Chinese government has passed a law forbidding anyone above 65 years old from running in marathons. We then reveal that Mr. Sun has continued to run marathons under other people’s names.
