Brief Explanation

Problem Every year Chinese consumes 45 billion pairs of disposable wooden chopsticks that equal to around 25 million trees. And the rate increases every year. Disposable chopsticks have long been preferred for their convenience and hygiene. Restaurants use them to prevent potential spread of disease, and for takeout and delivery meals. If China continues its current rate of disposable chopsticks consumption, it's estimated that China's forests will disappear in 20 years. Before it's too late, we need to stop letting disposable chopsticks destroy our forests!

The Brief

Problem Every year Chinese consumes 45 billion pairs of disposable wooden chopsticks that equal to around 25 million trees. And the rate increases every year. Disposable chopsticks have long been preferred for their convenience and hygiene. Restaurants use them to prevent potential spread of disease, and for takeout and delivery meals. If China continues its current rate of disposable chopsticks consumption, it's estimated that China's forests will disappear in 20 years. Before it's too late, we need to stop letting disposable chopsticks destroy our forests!

How the final design was conceived

Solution Create awareness that disposable chopsticks are harming our environment. We need to remind people to stop using them and to use reusable ones instead. We collected used disposable chopsticks from the bin and created art with it. Turning these disposable chopsticks into formidable destructive machines that destroy our forest. It’s a single-minded piece of communication that is entertaining and easy to understand.

Indication of how successful the outcome was in the market

The campaign is still new and too early for results and we don't expect the public to stop using wooden chopsticks immediately. However as a reminder, awareness for "Friends Of Nature Shanghai" and the subject is highly noticeable.
