MVO: In a town called Jaynagar in India, a train driver stopped his diesel locomotive in the station to get a drink. Inadvertently, the driver left the transmission in neutral, and the train started moving. Without him. Frantic station personnel tried to stop it– but failed. Soon, the runaway locomotive crossed the border, entering Nepal.
The train had now accelerated to over 50 km per hour, careening through towns, bridges and other stations. Eventually, railway officials were able to stop the train by diverting it with multiple obstructions to an abandoned track. Had you been a passenger on the train, you would have spent 45 minutes in utter terror. On the other hand, you can spend the same amount of time much more pleasurably watching any of the 9 once-act plays never before staged, in Virgin Labfest 2013. June 26 to July 7 at the Cultural Center.
45 minutes on a runaway train or 45 minutes of great theater? Your choice.
