A visually remarkable piece that takes human ingenuity and boundless inspiration to new heights. Through the seamless integration of live animals and subtle computer effects, we're introduced to a humble zookeeper with big dreams as he turns a band of wild animals into a masterful vocal orchestra in a spot that shows us what can happen when we have the courage to be extraordinary.
The compositing work was challenging as the animals were filmed separately under different lighting conditions. Over 8000 frames of animal footage needed to be keyed and rotoscoped as the animals often moved out beyond the bluescreen backgrounds. Autodesk's Flame was used to stabilize, and then apply individual colour corrections to all the animals shots. They were then positioned with Flame's action compositor with z depth and subtle camera moves were applied to give a sense of parallax. Without the parallax movements, the shots would have appeared flat and less realistic. The first wide shot was the most challenging as we needed to establish to staging position for all the animals. which would be a reference for all the other shots to follow.
