Subaru’s EYESIGHT™ is an advanced driver assist technology that automatically detects obstacles and brings the car to a stop to avoid collisions. Produced as promotional items to reward dealer visits, the EYESIGHT-equipped mini-cars automatically stop when they encounter an obstacle. For this web movie, the mini-cars were fitted with micro-speakers* that produce sounds while the cars are running. The sounds stop as the mini-car “performers” come to a stop one after the other. Then, as the cars all set off together, the sounds from the speakers combine to create a melody. This orchestrated performance of EYESIGHT-equipped mini-cars was created to inform about this new technology and encourage dealer visits.
In the first half of the film, miniature cars equipped with micro-speakers emit a variety of different sounds that stop when the mini-cars come to a stop. When all the mini-cars come together in formation, the obstacle is removed and the cars begin to move, and the sounds resume. As all the mini-cars move out, the random sounds begin to overlap, and in no time, a melody is heard. By overlaying dozens of seemingly random sounds, we were able to create a unique rendition of Mozart’s Turkish March for the memorable climax of our movie. Why did we choose the Turkish March? In addition to expressing the stop-and-start movements of the mini-cars in an entertaining manner, we felt that this familiar refrain would add to viewers’ surprise and delight as the cars come into formation and the melody takes shape.
