The biggest challenge that the brief had to overcome was the hesitance of people to protect themselves from HIV by using a condom. Many believe that it gets in the way of sexual pleasure. The approach given was to communicate to everyone that when you protect yourself from the virus, the longer you will live. The longer you live, the longer you can enjoy your sex life.
The Red Whistle is a non-government organization supported by the United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS). Their aim is to spread awareness about the HIV virus with the hope of getting people to have themselves tested and get the government to increase funding on projects to stop and treat HIV/AIDS.
The materials were designed to show that a condom does not ruin sex. To do this, posters depicting different sexual positions were created with the negative spaces in between bodies taking the shape of a condom. The condom is integrated into the artwork seamlessly enough not to destroy the art. This signifies that getting protected does not make take away the beauty of sex. Instead, it gives you a longer sex life to enjoy.
The red whistle reports a significant increase in the number of people getting HIV tests. More calls by people wanting to know more about the disease hae also been confirmed.
